DC’s Summer Event Absolute Power Unites the Trinity of Evil

DC Comics has revealed its big summer blockbuster event for 2024: Absolute Power. The series will bring together a bunch of storylines centered around Amanda Waller that have been running throughout the Dawn of DC, which started last year. The new publishing initiative was announced during the ComicsPRO Comic Industry Conference, the annual event that brings comic retailers and publishers together under the same roof.

Absolute Power is a four-issue event written by Mark Waid with Dan Mora handling the illustration duties. In it, Waller teams up with Failsafe and Brainiac Queen to form the Trinity of Evil, to steal every metahuman’s abilities on the planet, including superheroes and supervillains. Naturally, this draws the attention of DC’s classic trinity - Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, along with other heroes in the DC Universe.

The first taste of the storyline can be experienced for free with the 2024 Absolute Power Free Comic Book Day Special Edition, which as the name implies, will be available on store shelves on May 4, 2024. It’s not a small issue either, with over 32 pages of story that act as a prelude to the event. It will include an original 12-page story by Mark Waid with art by Mikel Janín, a recap of the events leading up to Absolute Power, and a preview of Absolute Power #1.

A new cover for Absolute Power: Ground Zero, the official prelude, was also revealed that shows Waller in front of a burning painting of DC’s trinity. The prelude will bridge the ending of House of Brainiac with the upcoming event.

DC Finest Collection

Alongside the Absolute Power announcement, DC also revealed its DC Finest Collection, which collects some of the publisher’s most in-demand stories. The DC Finest Collection will launch in November, priced at $34.99 USD per collection. The first wave of the collection that will go on sale includes:

  • Superman: The Coming of Superman (1938-1940)

  • The Flash: The Human Thunderbolt (1956-1961)

  • Batman: Year One and Two (1986-1987)

  • Wonder Woman: Origins and Omens (2007-2009)

  • Catwoman: Life Lines (1988-1994)

Absolute Power #1 will go on sale on July 2, 2024.
