DC Gets A Lot Less Grim in the First Shazam! Trailer

So far, Warner Bros. has had more misses than hits in the DC universe. Wonder Woman has been the high mark (even Superman himself agrees with that), but considering how exhausting and drawn out Batman v. Superman and Justice League were, that's a relatively low bar to clear.

There are a lot of ways to pull future DC movies out of this spiral, and one big idea is to drop the grim, self-important tone and lighten up future films. And looking at the trailer for the upcoming Shazam! movie, Warner Bros. seems to have gotten that note. Granted, it's hard to do a dark, gritty take on a kid who turns into an adult-bodied superhero by saying a magic nonsense word, but Zachary Levi looks genuinely wacky and giddy in the title role.

The trailer also gets bonus points for not having a totally washed out color palette. Shazam! opens April 5, 2019.
