Meet your newest Batgirl: In the Heights star Leslie Grace.

The 26-year-old actor will star in DC's forthcoming Batgirl movie, which will debut on HBO Max once it arrives, Deadline reports. Leslie will play this era's Batgirl Barbara Gordon, the most well-known iteration of the character, and one who has been in the comics since the 1960s. In that source material, Barbara is the daughter of Gotham's police commissioner and head of the city's public library. (She's also part of the Birds of Prey as Oracle, though the character wasn't in the Margot Robbie film.)

Earlier this week, Deadline floated a short list of actors under consideration for the role, including Leslie, Zoey Deutch, Isabela Merced, and Haley Lu Richardson. Leslie, fresh off her starring turn in In the Heights, ultimately won out — Deadline revealed that her audition “sealed the deal” for the studio. “I am BEYOND EXCITED to embody Barbara Gordon, your #Batgirl,” Leslie tweeted after the news broke. “I cannot believeeee what I’m writing rn… THANK YOU DC for welcoming to the family! I’m ready to give her all I’ve got!”

There's no release date yet, though the Hollywood Reporter noted that previously 2023 had been the goal. Batgirl will be directed by Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

Her first big role was playing Nina Rosario in In the Heights, but Leslie is also an accomplished musician who has worked with Becky G, Super Junior, Maluma, and more. We can't wait to see what she does next — and how she'll bring Batgirl to life onscreen.
