'Days of Our Lives' Actor Quinn Redeker Dead at 86

His family announced the heartbreaking news earlier today.

Actor and screenwriter Quinn Redeker has died. He was 86.

The sad news broke earlier today after Redeker's family announced the actor passed away on Dec. 20 in Los Angeles, California, blaming his death on natural causes, according to Deadline.

Redeker starred in the hit soap opera Days of Our Lives, portraying the villainous Alex Marshall from 1979 to 1987. After his lengthy stint on the soap, he joined the cast of The Young and the Restless from 1987 to 1994, first playing small parts before later going on to assume the regular role of successful businessman Rex Sterling, per the outlet.

The official Twitter account for The Young and the Restless paid tribute to the late actor following the news of his passing, writing, "The Y&R Family sends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Quinn Redeker who blessed Y&R with his talents in two memorable roles."

Redeker's acting career spanned far beyond popular daytime dramas, as the star made numerous appearances and cameos in a variety of television series, including Bonanza, That Girl, Dan RavenMannixIronsideMayberry R.F.D., Adam-12, The Bob Newhart Show, Barnaby JonesThe Virginian, CSI: Miamiand the TV movie Supernatural, to name a few, according to IMDb.

His talents also graced theaters, both on and off the screen. He earned an Oscar nomination and story credit for Michael Cimino’s 1978 film The Deer Hunter, as well as great applause for his performance in Robert Redford's 1980 drama Ordinary People.

Redeker is survived by his adult children Brennen, Arianne, Glaen, and Quinn Jr., and two grandchildren. Information regarding memorial plans or celebration of life was not immediately available.
