With Days Before Her Foster Leaves the Country, Shelter Sweetie Needs Help ASAP

By now, just about all pet owners and animal adoption advocates know just how overcrowded and under-resourced shelters are these days. It's not exactly breaking news, no matter where you live! You can have your pick of loving shelter dogs wherever you visit, but if you live in or near Georgia, please consider giving shelter sweetheart Mara the loving foster home she needs to thrive.

This resilient young Pittie has overcome challenge after challenge since being rescued from a county shelter in Georgia in December 2022. She was mere hours away from meeting a very different fate, but thanks to the selflessness of her rescuers, she had a chance to thrive. However, the clock is winding down on her time to find a new foster home, and her human friends are begging Georgians for help.

Sweet Mara was only one year old when she was pulled from Rockdale County Animal Shelter in Conyers, GA, after a month with zero adoption interest. Sadly, the shelter was ready to help her cross the Rainbow Bridge just to make more room in the shelter, but Braveheart Bulliez Rescue made sure that didn't happen.

False Promises Let Mara Down

Krystle Carrara, the founder of Braveheart Bulliez, said that it was Mara's sweet face that convinced her to step in. She told dog rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka, "She had the most soulful, trusting eyes.” she sure does! While she trusted her team of rescuers wholeheartedly, she was sadly let down when some of the folks who offered to step up for her backed out at the last minute.

First, the two sponsors who agreed to cover her adoption fees and bills for her care stopped responding to the rescue. Then, her foster family backed out, leaving her with nowhere to go.

Fortunately, the resilient rescue team found a boarding and training program where Mara could live while learning how to become a well-mannered pet. She worked hard to overcome her shelter traumas, and it didn't take long before her trainers were thrilled with her progress.

“She blew everyone away with how smart and willing to learn she was,” Carrara told Rocky Kanaka. Mara excels on a leash, is not reactive to other dogs while on a leash, and is comfortable wearing a muzzle during playtime with other dogs. She's a star student! Unfortunately, what should have been a 2-month stay at the board and train facility quickly became nearly a year, and Mara's trainers began to watch her decline in mind and body.

A Temporary Miracle for Mara

Just when things seemed bleakest, Braveheart Bulliez received a foster application from someone who would be a perfect fit for Mara. And as expected, the sweet Pit Bull settled into family life without missing a beat. She loves to snuggle in bed, play with stuffed animals, and receive tons of love from family members. Best of all, this Starbucks lover can't get enough of her Pup Cups, and she's always down for a walk, a hike, or a car ride.

If this seems too good to be true, that's because it is. Mara's foster owner let the rescue know that she was scheduled to move overseas, so the search began quickly for a new foster home. Sadly, no one has stepped up. Now, there is less than a week before Mara finds herself homeless again, and Braveheart Bulliez is hoping that someone is willing to open their home to her--even temporarily.

If you could provide temporary housing for this gal who needs to be the only dog in the home, please check out her Petfinder profile or read up on the Braveheart Bulliez website to learn how to become a foster.
