A day of races: Palestine's second "Horsey Derby" set for Saturday

May 3—Palestine Main Street and the Palestine Farmers Market will host their second Palestine Horsey Derby on Saturday, May 4.

Children can participate in stick horse races for fun and prizes in celebration of Kentucky Derby Day from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Jockeys need to check in by 10:30 a.m. Races start at 10:45 a.m.

Stick horses will be furnished for the races courtesy of Palestine Main Street, but participants also can bring their own.

"We will also have mint julep 'mocktails,' Traveling Tom's Coffee Truck, Big Dud's BBQ food truck, a host of local vendors to shop from, kids face painting and more," said April Shaner, market manager.

Derby hats and attire are encouraged but not required.

The event is free

The Palestine Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 813 W. Spring St.
