A Day in the Life of America's Goodest Boy: Thor the Bulldog

GCHG Diamond Gold Majesu Pisko Bulls, or Thor (to his friends), is the goodest boy in America and he has a very shiny new food dish and also a ribbon to prove it. Two-year-old Thor beat out many other very, very good doggos to claim Thanksgiving’s highest canine honor, the title of Best in Show at the National Dog Show presented by Purina. Best in Show judge Charlotte Patterson chose the English Bulldog due to his “outstanding overall attitude and presence.”

Do you aspire to be as good a boy (or girl) as Thor the bulldog? Here’s what a day in the life of a champion looks like:

Mornings

The Houston, Tex.-based Thor, a globetrotter in his own right, awakes when his people do, “especially if he hears suitcase wheels because he wants to be sure he’s going too if anyone is traveling,” his owner, Kara Gordon tells me via email. For breakfast, the pup enjoys Purina Pro Plan SPORT Performance 30/20 Salmon & Rice Formula — but he’ll also indulge in the occasional part-skim mozzarella string cheese.

Afternoons

Thor, while generally “chill,” will engage in playtime with his fellow doggos (whom he lets "boss him around"), as well as solo activities like chasing after balls, “jumping on any sofa or chair around, exploring outside, and just looking cute.” Napping and sniffing “EVERYTHING” factor prominently into Thor’s schedule, too, but Gordon says he also finds time to take stock of his day: “He appears to be thinking deep thoughts from time to time … Maybe he’s meditating?” she wonders.

But it’s not all fun and games (and deep, existential thought). Thor also needs to have his “facial folds wiped and dried,” and once a week he gets a bath and conditioning treatments.

Evenings

Like the best of us, Thor will unwind from a long day with some HGTV (we peg him as a House Hunters stan) and a walk. But he’s not married to his routine. “Nothing really throws him — he just enjoys living life,” Gordon says.

When it comes to the root of his good boy-ness, Gordon adds, "Not only is he a beautiful representative of the breed, but he loves to show off in the ring and has the most amazing movement — like he’s walking on air. He is also sweet as pie and so patient. He’s a pleasure in every sense. SUCH a good boy!!"
