David Bowie? Tilda Swinton? Nah, It’s Sandy Powell!

David Bowie has always been a major fashion inspiration, but since his passing in January, the references have been even more prevalent. From the runways in New York, London, and Milan (and Paris soon!) to street style on adoring fans, Ziggy Stardust has been seen in ensembles everywhere. But most prominently, the red carpet has featured some major moments channeling a variety of the singer’s iconic fashions.

At the Grammy Awards, Lady Gaga, who performed a tribute to the artist in multiple costumes, walked the step-and-repeat in a custom Marc Jacobs gown. The royal blue number featured tuxedo detailing and multicolored embroidery. As for her beauty, Mother Monster wore glittery eyeshadow and a bright red wig, reminiscent of the glam rocker’s vibe for the 1971 hit “Life on Mars.”

Taking a similar cue, Sandy Powell had her hair colored bright orange for the Oscars. Not only did the costume designer, who’s nominated for her work on Cinderella, take her look to the extreme by dyeing her hair a wild shade, she also opted for a suit that any Bowie fan would go gaga (pun totally intended) for. Her matching suit featured a fitted blazer and wide-leg pants in a silver and turquoise diamond pattern.

Not only did Powell look like Bowie, she also, at least according to E!’s red carpet coverage, resembled Tilda Swinton. Hey, there are worse people to be compared to. Take it as a compliment, Sandy.
