David Beckham Says He's "Proud" of Prince Harry

Another kind of British royalty had something to say about Prince Harry (or just "Harry" now, thank you very much) and Meghan Markle's decision to step away from their roles as senior members of the royal family. According to Entertainment Tonight, soccer legend David Beckham — who happens to be a close friend of Harry — said that he was "proud" of Harry's decision. As a father himself and someone who's in the public eye, he understands what the Sussexes are going through and thinks that happiness for Harry and his family has to come first.

"I haven't spoken to Harry about him moving. We speak as friends and that's the most important thing for me," Beckham said. "I think he's enjoying being a young father for the first time and that's what we always spoke about. When you are a parent, it changes everything for you. He always needs to be happy."

Beckham, who was in New York City for an event with Major League Soccer, said that he can see real growth with Harry, noting that fatherhood has a way of changing people and showing them what's important.

"We love him and he's an amazing person — and that's the most important thing — but I'm proud to see him growing up as an individual and being that person that every father wants to be," Beckham continued. "Every father wants to be loving to their children and that's what I see with him."

Beckham and his wife, Victoria, famously attended Harry and Meghan's wedding back in 2018. While it's no royal wedding, Beckham told ET that Meghan and Harry are welcome to any of the games with his new soccer team, Inter Miami CF. "They're all invited," Beckham said.
