Dave Filoni Ahsoka set

Dave Filoni – creator of Ahsoka, Star Wars Resistance, and The Bad Batch – has revealed he’s had a bit of a promotion, and has stepped into the role of chief creative officer at Lucasfilm. He previously worked as an executive creative director at the company.

The promotion was revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair, where Filoni revealed that he would be much more involved with the production of new projects from the beginning. He says that previously, he would be brought into Star Wars projects a little too late to make any serious changes.

“Now I’m what’s called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm,” Filoni said, “In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways. In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on.”

Filoni first started working at Lucasfilm in 2005, where he was brought into the company by George Lucas himself to help develop Star Wars: The Clone Wars — both the film and the subsequent animated series. He went on to become a supervising director for Star Wars Rebels, and has since worked on shows like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and more.

He’s also set to create and direct a Star Wars feature length film, which is said to close out the stories of a number of interconnected Star Wars series, like The Book of Boba Fett, Skeleton Crew, and Ahsoka.

It’s hard to know what the future of Star Wars will look like under Filoni’s creative vision — he’s definitely been shown to be a fan of fan service, so expect to see more of that. With any luck, we’ll start to see some weirder and wilder projects picked up too, like The Incredible Hulk director’s lone wolf and cub TV series that was pitched many years ago.
