There’s a Daring (and Surprisingly Wearable!) Beauty Trend Happening on the Paris Runway
This morning at Altuzarra, a tropical mise en scène was set. Inside the Hôtel Potocki, a grand 19th-century hôtel particulier, the large glass-windowed doors were wide open with white curtains swaying in the breeze as the sun streamed onto the runway amidst touches of lush greenery. The result was a backdrop that transported showgoers from the City of Light to a slightly more equatorial destination.
“The inspiration was the heat wave because everyone has been effected by it,” explained makeup artist Tom Pecheaux, dipping his brush into a palette of beachy, peachy sculpting pigments that referenced Altuzarra’s spring 2019 collection of seashell-woven textures, painterly floral and gingham prints, and thigh high-slit silhouettes in a neon-bright color palette.
The backstage pro began by turning up naturally luminous complexions, blending tawny, bronzed cream pigments on the nose and apples of the cheeks in a reverse V-shape as if models got too much sun traipsing around the South of France. Then, he blended a shade called Sherbetty from MAC’s Trend Forecast Spring 19 palette from the inner eye towards the brow for a deep tangerine smoky eye. “I didn’t want glowing skin with a bit of sun kiss, I want to bring a flavor of fire,” he explained of the monochromatic pop of color on the eyes.
Strikingly encasing the gazes of all-American beauty Rebecca Longendyke, who, like the majority of the girls, had her lengths raked into a wet, slightly mussed slick back, and Queens native newcomer Indira Scott, who had her waist-grazing, wooden beaded box braids swept back from the face, the vibrant take on back-from-the-beach beauty is a lesson in how to turn up the wattage for spring, but make it real-world wearable for right now.
