Daredevil: Born Again has seen its fair share of problems while in production but after a creative overhaul of the series, it looks like fans of the original Netflix show are in for a treat. The new showrunners, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, seem to have locked in what aspects of the Netflix show will carry over to the Disney+ series.

According to a report from Deadline, actor Wilson Bethel – who portrayed Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye in season 3 of Daredevil – will reprise his role in Born Again. Details are being kept under wraps for now, but he is expected to be in at least three episodes of the show. Bullseye never wore his comic-accurate costume on the show, and given Marvel Studios’ tendency to stick closer to the over-the-top aesthetics in the comics, fans might see the character dressed in his iconic garb in the reboot.

Elsewhere, the characters of Karen Page and Foggy Nelson are also reportedly returning, portrayed by Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson. Daredevil’s previous appearances in the MCU – that being Marvel's She-Hulk and Echo – never directly referenced the events of the Netflix show. However, given that Wilson Fisk’s origins are directly referenced in Echo, it’s clear that Marvel Studios is open to bringing back more elements of the original show that fans loved. Nelson and Murdock are back in business!

Another character confirmed to be returning to the show is Frank Castle/Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal. Bernthal played the character in two seasons of Daredevil as well as starring in his spinoff show that ran for two seasons. The Punisher and Bullseye both make up for some of the darker aspects of the Netflix series and bringing them back makes one thing clear — Marvel Studios is not shying away from the gritty violence of the Netflix shows. Echo was the first step in that direction, with a TV-MA rating released under the new “Marvel Spotlight” banner. This year's Deadpool 3, Marvel's only theatrical release, will also be the studio's first R-rated film.

While it’s great to see these characters being acknowledged by Marvel Studios, it remains to be seen whether the rest of the Defenders’ roster will return to the MCU. There have been conflicting reports of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones returning in Daredevil: Born Again, but after the creative overhaul of the show, it’s hard to say whether she’ll show up.
