Danville students enjoy sunshine at field day

May 22—DANVILLE — Danville Primary School students were lucky to spend the day out in the sun Monday as they participated in field day.

The event consisted of nine stations including inflatable slides, water relays and even Pelican's SnoBalls. Each station was staffed with Danville high school student and parent volunteers, according to Primary School Principal Megan Geise.

"DPS field day was a huge success thanks to our Home and School Association, parent volunteers and high school student volunteers," Geise said. "The day was filled with sunshine and fun."

First grader Sadie Walters said the water relay was her favorite activity at field day, though the contest ended in a tie between teams. Walters said she was looking forward to enjoying ice from Pelican's and having fun with her friends.

Danville high school seniors Alexis Snover and Emma Parker, who volunteered at the primary school's event, said the kids were really enjoying the inflatable slides.

Snover and Parker recalled their own field days at the primary school and said this year's students were lucky to have Pelican's SnoBalls at the event.

The seniors said going to events like field day is nostalgic for them as they near their high school graduation in just a few weeks.

Monday was an exciting day inside the primary school as well as students got to meet two ducklings that hatched over the weekend after patiently waiting for 28 days, Geise said.

"A kindergarten student, Samuel, from Mrs.Bond's class, named our first duck 'Cinnamon Roll,'" Geise said. "Students enjoyed looking at the eggs on their way to lunch everyday. We are going to try putting them in a small pool tomorrow."
