Danny Rose blasts Premier League returning while lives are at risk
The English Premier League could return next month after the United Kingdom’s government announced Monday that sports may resume in empty stadiums starting June 1.
The return of live sports has been floated as a way to lift morale two months into government-mandated lockdowns and quarantine periods around the world. That doesn’t sit well with Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Danny Rose, who blasted the idea on an Instagram Live with British singer-songwriter Don-E.

“The government is saying we are bringing football back because it is going to boost the nation’s morale.
“I don’t give a f--- about the nation’s morale. People’s lives are at risk. Football shouldn’t even be spoke [sic] about coming back until the numbers have dropped massively. It’s bollocks. We’ll see. I’m supposed to tested on Friday so we will just have to wait and see.”
The 20 clubs in the Premier League will vote next week on when and how games come back. Bringing players, support staff and referees back puts everyone and their families at risk if even one person is positive for COVID-19.
Germany’s Bundesliga plans to restart its season this weekend without fans in attendance. They will have cardboard cutouts of those fans, though.
Leagues in Spain and Italy are attempting to complete their seasons as well, while sports in the U.S. are trying to get things rolling as states begin to lift lockdown restrictions. Major League Baseball and its players association began negotiating a comeback on Monday with the owners approving a restart in July.
