Daniel Radcliffe Shares Rare Update About Life With His Baby Boy

Daniel Radcliffe and Erin Darke — his partner of more than a decade — have been pretty secretive since welcoming their first child this spring. The baby’s birthday is unknown (although the couple was spotted pushing a stroller in New York City back in April). And Radcliffe didn’t reveal the baby’s sex until July when he casually dropped “he” while talking about his son in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“[Fatherhood is] great. It’s crazy and intense, but he’s wonderful and Erin is amazing,” the Harry Potter star said. “I was always going to take some time off, which not everyone is able to do, and so I’m able to kind of just be here with him a lot, which is lovely.”

In an appearance on The Today Show yesterday, Radcliffe gave viewers another little look at his life as a dad, calling the experience “awesome.”
“I think a lot of people said, like, ‘Just get through the first six months, then after that it gets better,'” he said. “But I’ve kind of really enjoyed the first six months.”

Host Hoda Kotb then asked the actor if being a dad is what he imagined, and Radcliffe was incredibly candid with his touching answer. “I don’t know what I imagined, honestly. But it’s great. He’s incredible and I’m just, like, in awe.”
Earlier this month, Radcliffe also opened up about the fear that goes hand-in-hand with that awe.
“It’s frankly terrifying to have a human being in the world that I care this much about,” Radcliffe said. “And that everything he does is going to affect how I feel about my life for the rest of my life. So, you know, that’s intimidating.”
He later went into how unexpected those feelings can be.
“The fact that there is a creature in the world that can give you the worst night of your life, and then you wake up in the morning and go over to them and they turn around and smile and you’re like, ‘I don’t care about any of the things you just did,’” he said. “That’s pretty cool.”
“It’s been a really wonderful year,” Radcliffe continued. “And I couldn’t wish to be in a better place.”
His answers really are the sweetest, and we really hope he keeps opening up about what seems to be his favorite “role” yet. Even if Baby Radcliffe is the star and Radcliffe is the supporting character.
