Daniel Lee's First Collection for Burberry Is Here

The British fashion house has its ducks in a row for Fall 2023.

Daniel Lee has landed at Burberry, with his first collection for the house — for Fall 2023 — hitting the refresh button on the British brand. And, as has been teased, it's a lot closer to the neutral-leaning, but forward-thinking direction the house was once known for.

The highly-anticipated London Fashion Week show opened with a trench. But this isn't the tan overcoat Burberry fans might be used to: Yes, Lee's sticking to the brand's codes, but updating them with fresh colorways (in this case, dark green, with emerald faux fur accents) and new cuts (oversized fit, blown-out collar). The looks that followed continued this theme, with plaids that are far from neutral (Lee opted for regal purples with black or yellow, bright reds with magenta, yellows with grey, blue with white), utility-inspired layers and hardware, duck prints on jackets and dresses — a balance between heritage and contemporary.

You'll want to keep an eye out on the handbags, which range from leather crossbodies to oversized totes to handheld satchels: At Bottega Veneta, Lee helped catapult the brand's leather goods (like the padded cassette bag) to the top of the "it" bag power ranking, so he has a track record of crafting commercially successful accessories.

With Fall 2023, we get a glimpse of the designer's philosophy as Burberry's chief creative officer: a return to the brand's roots in outerwear and plaid, with a twist that surprises — and, most likely, sells.
