Daniel Craig visited the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) headquarters in Virginia, USA last month to learn about the real lives of American Intelligence officers in preparation for his next appearance as James Bond  in the 25th film of the franchise.
In an official statement, the US government agency said they had invited Craig as part of an initiative to: "[work] with the film industry to combat misrepresentations and assist in balanced and accurate portrayals."

During his visit, it was reported that Craig learned about "the many facets of intelligence collection," knowledge which may come in handy when the star returns as 007 next year.

It was reportedly explained to Craig, "that real life espionage is a lot more 'cloak' and a lot less 'dagger'," than the exploding pens, jet packs and submersive cars of the Bond franchise may have led him to believe.

In a statement, the intelligence bureau spoke of its public responsibilities, stating: "The CIA does not exist in a vacuum. The Agency is held accountable by Congress and scrutinized by the American people."

This is an active effort, on the government agency's part to "humanize the workforce and demonstrate the many ways CIA's work enhances national security."

It is not the first meeting of its kind to be hosted by the agency. In May, the CIA also hosted an event, Reel vs. Real, at University College Los Angeles alongside the cast of FX's The Americans in which they discussed the inconsistencies between television and real intelligence work.

James Bond: who is the best 007?

Production for the 25th Bond film is scheduled to begin on December 3 and the final product released in late 2019. So far plot rumours have suggested that Bond falls in love, quits the service and gets married.

Danny Boyle, director of the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, was announced as the film's director in May.
