Daniel Arnold Goes Inside the Met

Street photographer Daniel Arnold sees everything differently—even the most glamorous event of the year, the Costume Institute’s annual Met Ball. Though he is best known for his close-proximity portraits of unsuspecting passersby, Vogue enlisted Arnold for the first Monday in May, tasking him with turning his lens on the gala’s guests so that he might capture candid shots of the assembled fashion luminaries; entrepreneurs; captains of industry; and stars of stage, screen, and songbook at their most unguarded and unchoreographed as they gather to celebrate the museum’s most ambitious exhibition yet: “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Follow along for a truly unfiltered look at the world’s most exclusive event.
