Daniëlle Cathari’s First New Balance Sneaker Collaboration Takes After Pistachio and Chocolate

Daniëlle Cathari, the Dutch founder of her namesake label and recently appointed creative director for Kith Women, is launching her first New Balance collaboration this week.

Cathari’s New Balance 991v2 invokes her love of pastries through a color scheme inspired by pistachio and chocolate. Bright green suede forms the vast majority of the upper’s overlays, while a dark brown mesh is used for the underlays and tongue. Cream, grey and silver then serve as accenting colors through detailing such as the eyelets and “N” logo as well as the color-blocked sole unit. The co-branded tongue tag also hosts “Cathari” embroidery, but branding is otherwise kept to a minimum for the shoe featuring Made in UK construction.
Cathari previously collaborated on tracksuits with Adidas in 2018, the same year in which she launched her namesake label. The then 23-year-old designer was already buzzing for a class project involving deconstructed tracksuits that led to an appearance on the Vfiles runway, and her Adidas collection was modeled by Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin.
To complement the sneaker’s release, Cathari teamed up with Kora, a Queens-based bakery rooted in Filipino culture and known for its extravagant weekly donut drops that sell out like shoes or streetwear. Together, they’ve made a custom “Catharitozzi” pastry that will be available at the Kith Women Flagship in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan.
The Daniëlle Cathari x New Balance Made in UK 991v2 itself will release Friday, Feb. 9, exclusively through Kith’s app and the Kith Women store. A drawing on the app is now open until 11:59 p.m. EST Thursday. Pricing is set at $250.
