The creator says negotiations are happening!

Dan Harmon, the creator of Community, has confirmed that fans will be getting a movie based on the sitcom.

Harmon revealed to The Wrap that the movie, which fans have been rallying behind for some time, is indeed coming to fruition. Harmon said that they recently completed a story outline for the film and negotiations are now in the works.

"Conversations and agreements are happening," Harmon told the outlet. "There's a story—who knows if we'll end up sticking to it, but it was something we had to compile in order to take it out and court various venues."

He added, "When you put the percentage chances together it's like you have to account for maybe the world blowing up or another virus happening. But as far as the industry is concerned, this is a matter of when and not if, for sure."

Alison Brie, who played Annie Edison, told The Wrap that "legitimate conversations" were happening around the subject back in July, which first got fans excited about the future.

When speaking with the UnWrapped podcast, she said, "You know what? I'll say it. There's been movement. There's been some talks. People are talking, and certain things…wheels are turning. I said it!"

Along with Brie, cast members Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, and Ken Jeong have also expressed their eagerness to reprise their roles in a potential film spinoff.

Although Harmon and Brie have both confirmed a movie will be happening, he doesn't want viewers to get too excited just yet; the film isn't necessarily occurring as soon as fans may think.

"Now, I say that with such caution, because sometimes the audience is like, 'So that means what a year, two years?'" He added, "I could have said what I just said three years ago and it would have been almost as accurate, and can you imagine if I had said that three years ago? That's me setting people up for three years of abusive neglect and making them feel forgotten, and it's hard enough to just say nothing."

Back in 2020, the cast reunited for a table read and Q&A with fans to help support COVID-19 relief charities. During the Q&A, the conversations around a potential Community film were brought up, but the cast and writers kept it hush.

Looks like the cat is finally out of the bag, and fans are eventually going to get what they've been hoping for all along!
