A Dallas woman takes this safety item around with her when she goes for ‘hot girl walks’

A woman who takes “hot girl walks” is sharing one of her safety tips.

On July 10, a TikTok creator in Dallas who goes by the username @itsferngo revealed a safety product that she carries with her whenever she goes out.

“I’m about to go for a walk, but I wanted to quickly share some information about this Taser ring that I literally take with me every time I go on a walk. Pretty much every time I leave the house,” she begins. “It’s this Streetwise security products Taser ring.”

The product @itsferngo may be referring to, as advertised by Streetwise, is the Streetwise Sting Ring Rechargeable Stun Gun.

The ring, which fits “compactly in your hand,” can be operated with the click of a button.

“It’s just a little red button on the back here that you would click, God forbid, if you ever need it to protect yourself,” she says. “And it’s very comfortable when you’re walking to just have it like this.”

@itsferngo then clicks the button to capture the loud, “jarring” sound the device makes.

“I feel like even just that noise would be threatening enough to create some distance between you and a person if you needed to do that,” she adds.

While stun guns are “close proximity devices that require you to be next to the person attacking you” and “use a painful shock to discourage further contact,” a Taser “uses projectile prongs that attach to a target further away” and sends “electricity across a larger area,” states SafeWise.

Stun guns, per Lawrina, are legal in all states except Hawaii and Rhode Island. In Illinois, a stun gun can only be purchased with a firearm owner’s identification card. Michigan and Wisconsin require a concealed carry weapons license in order to purchase a stun gun.

In May, Kailee Billerbeck (@everydayarmor), a black belt with a psychology degree and the founder of Everyday Armor, which offers self-defense classes in Newport Beach, Calif., shared a series of safety tips on TikTok about walking alone at night.

Billerbeck says women should avoid “carrying a lot of stuff in their hands,” “walking around with headphones in” and “walking with the wrong pace.”

Adds Billerbeck, “We want to assert that we are confident, and if you’re walking really slow it probably doesn’t look like you know where you’re going. It could also tell somebody that you look distracted.”

The Everyday Armor founder also suggests that women carry pepper gel rather than pepper spray because “it’s much more effective.”

‘Ladies, it’s time to really protect ourselves at all cost’

Some TikTok users have taken to @itsferngo‘s comments to urge women to look out for themselves as well as to warn about the potential ineffectiveness of the product, based on what the perpetrator could be wearing.

“Probably not effective if someone is wearing baggy clothes such as hoody or jacket,” @gabrielmedina5765 wrote.

“Love it, I have a small comb that doubles as a knife. Ladies, it’s time to really protect ourselves at all cost,” @lauginginthecomments commented.

“I love taking walks at night, but don’t cause I don’t want to. But I would like one,” @mariahsmirage wrote, to which @itsferngo replied, “Oof! Def no walks at night for me.”
