The Los Angeles home of actress Dakota Johnson is a calming and restful space, that celebrates mid-century modern design. Known for its use of rich-toned natural woods and clean lines, mid-century is a design style we love for its sophisticated and organic qualities.

Originally built by architect Carl Maston, Johnson purchased the mid-century modern home and enlisted the help of interior designers Pierce and Ward, to help design the home into a personalized and practical space.

‘I was immediately drawn to how it was clean but also cozy,’ Johnson tells Architectural Digest upon its feature in the publication’s Open Door series.

The home looks instantly calming, and the use of large glass windows and doors brings the outdoors into the home and helps create a natural and serene environment.

Indoors, the space is filled with sentimental objects to the actress, combining vintage furniture with modern pieces that collectively feature lots of natural wood and minimalist form.

‘The design of the space is not dictated by trends, but rather by the personal preferences of Johnson. The interior choices reflect what is loved, creating a space that is both unique and meaningful,’ explains Melissa Read, Creative Director at Studio Burntwood.

Whilst there are plenty of rooms in the home that serve us interior inspiration, not least the charming green kitchen ideas, the below image of the living room doorway captures the home's mid-century charm and iconic design style, by incorporating wooden walls.

‘The warm atmosphere of the house is enhanced by the wooden wall cladding that is used throughout, creating a cohesive and unified feel amongst the eclectic furniture and accessories,’ Read goes on to explain.

Jennifer Ebert, deputy editor at Homes & Gardens also weighs in on the mid-century interior: 'The use of wooden walls in Johnson's home promotes an effortlessly sophisticated look, whilst also creating a warming and cozy space.'

'The clean lines of the natural wood capture that core mid-century look, and more importantly, the rest of the home's decor works cohesively to ensure the mid-century design is celebrated for years to come.'
