Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan Got ‘Fifty Shades’ Fit in a Trailer

From February to June 2016, a 52-foot trailer sat on the sets of Fifty Shades Darker in Vancouver, Canada.

The trailer is no stranger to movie sets. It belongs to fitness trainer and former NFL cheerleader Ramona Braganza and her partner, Canadian strength coach Steve Ramsbottom, and it is a fully equipped, state-of-the-art mobile fitness center.

The trailer was a fixture on the sets of such movies as X Men 3, Godzilla, The A-Team, and Fantastic Four — all of which were shot in Vancouver, an extremely popular destination for Hollywood movies — and it’s been the personal, on-set gym for stars like Hugh Jackman, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Liam Neeson, among others.

Last year, while Fifty Shades Deeper — which opens on Friday — was filming in Vancouver, Braganza trained stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan inside the trailer, working individually with each on specially crafted fitness programs four to six times a week, often at the crack of dawn.

Having the trailer on site, though, went a long way toward making the training more worthwhile and effective, both for the stars and Braganza.

“The trailer provides the stars with privacy and flexibility for their training schedules,” she tells Yahoo Beauty. “It has everything you’d find in a gym — weights, a Pilates reformer, a treadmill, a punching bag, a squat rack — you name it. It is fully air-conditioned and heated.”

The 8-foot-wide trailer also has plenty of floor space, which is exactly what Braganza needed to work with Johnson and Dornan on their legs.

The stars were in great shape, of course, with fine, toned bodies, But in Braganza’s view, they both fell short in the leg department, which she describes as “the body’s powerhouse.”

“Jamie was used to working out his chest, back, and shoulders but not his legs,” she says. “I noticed that when we first met and I helped him train and develop them. By doing so, his body reacted well and became leaner and stronger all over.”

And while Johnson was fit and slim, working to shape her legs and increase their strength helped a great deal in fine-tuning the toned look the star needed for Fifty Shades and preparing her to play a ballet dancer in her next film, Suspiria, in which she’ll co-star with Chloë Grace Moretz and Tilda Swinton.

Braganza created individual leg workouts for both Fifty Shades stars. She worked with Dornan twice a week on his legs, using heavy weights and incorporating squats, lunges, and deadlifts, in order to release testosterone and promote lean muscle growth all over the body.

Braganza worked with Johnson on her legs every day, to increase Johnson’s flexibility, speed up her metabolism and promote all-over weight loss. Beginning with a downward dog — a perfect move to warm up, lengthen, strengthen, and stretch, Braganza says, and a personal favorite of Johnson’s — the workout included a series of moves designed to strengthen, lengthen and shape the legs and glutes.

Braganza is also a firm proponent of proper nutrition as key to supporting a good workout regime.

Although Johnson ordered her meals from a meal service, she followed the guidelines set out in Braganza’s 3-2-1 Nutrition Plan. The 3-2-1 rule of thumb means three lean-and-clean meals, two snacks, and a minimum of one liter of water a day, to maintain healthy blood sugar levels, promote good metabolism, and keep muscles working all day long.
