Daily Devotional: Another answered prayer

"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity." — 1 Timothy 2:1-2 NRSVUE

I saw her in the car too late to dodge out of sight. She waved and called out, “Hey, Preacher! Come over here!” I really didn’t want to speak with her. Nothing was ever any good, and she let you know. All of her kids were problems, her marriage was a problem, her relatives, a problem, her neighbors a problem, and yes, church was a problem. And, she had quite the potty mouth.

Reluctantly, I walked over. I steeled myself for another barrage of pure negativity and the eternal plea to “Pity me.”

“Preacher, like you are always saying, ‘Have faith. It all comes right!’ Well, it is!” And she proceeded to list several incredible blessings that had come her way over the past several days.

“Thanks for praying, Preacher! God is really answering my prayers,” she shouted, smiling as she drove away. That was the very first time I ever, ever had a pleasant conversation with her.

And that was an answer to my prayers!

Prayer: Lord, Thank You for not giving up on us as often as we give up on each other-

Nudge me to pray for others today, especially those who are contrary.
