Tonight's episode of Game of Thrones was a rough one for just about everyone, between the brutal death of Missandei, Jaime loving and leaving Brienne, and Jon leaving Ghost behind without so much as a farewell pet. But Daenerys had a particularly rough ride. "The Last of the Starks" was bookended by devastating losses for her: the episode opens on Dany grieving the loss of Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen), her mentor and champion, who was one of the Battle of Winterfell's many casualties, and closes on her expression of pure fury after the losses of her dragon child Rheagal, and her trusted ally Missandei.

Dany's mounting isolation and paranoia was highlighted throughout the episode, most memorably during the post-Winterfell feast where it seems everybody around her is bonding, laughing and healing as she sits alone. Her relationship with Jon is declining fast, in the wake of the revelation that they're related and – more importantly, to these power-hungry weirdos – that he's ahead of her in line for the throne. Though she tries to swear him to secrecy, Jon tells his sisters the truth, which both re-emphasizes the fact that Dany will never take priority over his own family and weakens her standing as queen.

All in all, things aren't great for Dany, even before Cersei has Missandei killed seemingly to goad her. Fans are now predicting that Dany may have been pushed over the edge by this final blow, and will spend the remaining two episodes of the show descending into madness – potentially so much so that she'll be killed by Jon. And it's fair to say people have some mixed feelings about that possibility. Some fans are all for it...

While others are less convinced.

Even taking into account this season's jumbo-length episodes, it's hard to imagine how Daenerys could possibly suffer a convincing mental breakdown with only two instalments left to go. But based on the insane amount that happened in tonight's episode alone, anything's possible!
