Dad Surprises Daughter With Her Dream Dress for School Dance

Brb sobbing.

Someone pass the tissues because this viral video about an 8th grade dance has us all up in our feelings.

One student recently got the surprise of her life when her dad presented her with something she wasn’t expecting: the dream dress she wanted to wear to her 8th grade dance. In the now-viral clip, the dad walks up to his unsuspecting daughter with a purple garment bag. Initially, she looks a little puzzled about the whole situation. But then he unzips the bag, she takes a closer look, and once she realizes that it’s the dress, her jaw hits the floor. From there, it only gets even sweeter: she jumps up to embrace her father, who is (understandably) smiling from ear to ear.

According to the tweet, the father in the video works three jobs and had originally told her that he couldn’t afford the dress — but managed to pull it off in the end. Naturally, the clip's soundtrack is the classic father-daughter song “Butterfly Kisses” by Bob Carlisle, which pretty much makes us instantly start sobbing. Watch the whole encounter here, but we’re warning you: Make sure you’re prepared to shed some tears.

Unsurprisingly, responses to the touching moment were generally ~emotional~, with many people pointing out that the daughter’s first reaction wasn’t to grab the dress, but instead it was to hug her father. One person wrote that “every time she started to reach for the dress, she stopped and hugged her dad or cried and wiped happy tears away.” Another person theorized that she probably knew how hard he must have worked to get it for her — a fact that made the gesture even more special.

We love how this dad made his daughter’s dress dreams a reality, but we love her moving, grateful reaction even more. Now if you’ll excuse us, we need some time alone to collect ourselves after this serious sobfest.
