Dad Freaks Out After Snake Hiding Over Door Bites His Head in Viral TikTok

Just when you thought it was safe to come and go through the door of your own home, a viral TikTok has unlocked a new fear. A man coming home after a night out got bit on the head by a snake lurking just above his door.

In the 16-second video from TikToker user Stevie Haven, which was taken by the home's Ring camera, you can see his dad open the screen door, blissfully unaware of the snake hiding above. As he fumbles with the knob to the interior door, the snake strikes, biting him right on top of his head. "Ahh, I got bit," he yells, proceeding to stumble backwards down the front steps, taking a tumble onto the walk behind him.

The video has since been viewed over 35 million times, as people are equally horrified by the placement of the snake and amused by the dad's reaction to it.

In subsequent followup clips, Haven shows just how close both he and his dad's girlfriend were to getting chomped by the awaiting reptile.

"This was before Dad walked in haha, I had too much to drink and never seen the snake," he captioned the video, which shows the snake swipe at his head as he obliviously walks inside the house. "Bit his girlfriend on the head too," he added, although it's hard to make out in the clip. And if it did bite her, she seemed not to notice.

He likewise uploaded an initial clip, in which his dad's girlfriend walked out of the house shortly after they pulled up, breezing right past the snake. "This was before she got bit and DAD GOT BIT," he wrote. "The snake is just chilling and we never knew it."

Though clearly a terrifying moment for the hapless dad in the video, the snake appears to be a common rat snake, which are a non-venomous breed that feeds primarily on rodents. While rat snakes pose no threat to humans, as the Chattahoochee Nature Center notes, when cornered or threatened, black rat snakes "will often coil in a defensive posture, hiss, and strike repeatedly."

That much is clear. Threat or no threat, we wouldn't judge anyone from inspecting the door to their home before walking in late at night after watching these clips. You never know what could be lurking above your head!
