Dad blasts teacher who slammed his teen daughter to the ground: 'You shouldn't do that to a person's child'

A Texas dad is speaking out after a teacher at his daughter’s Dallas-area high school was caught on camera body-slamming the 15-year-old girl to the ground in order to break up a fight between her and another female student.

Caster Chatman told local news affiliate WFAA that the unidentified male teacher at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Texas, used excessive force in restraining his daughter during a fight that took place in a classroom about two weeks ago. Chatman has since enrolled the girl in a new school and says the body slam left her with a shoulder injury.

“That’s not the way to break up a fight between two young ladies,” Chatman told reporters. “You’re a grown man. She could have been easily restrained like the other guy restrained the other young lady. You shouldn’t do that to a person’s child.”

But the school is defending the teacher’s actions, insisting that he did not violate school policy.

“While the video doesn’t show the beginning of the incident in question, we do know that the teacher verbally instructed the students to stop and they ignored his directive,” Lancaster ISD spokeswoman S. Cole Hamilton told WFAA.

“In the video, one can see that the teacher uses his arm as a barrier to support the student as they went to the floor,” she added.

Chatman disagrees — and wants the school to make things right, though he did not specify how.

“It’s very frustrating for a father to see something like this happen to his teenage daughter,” he said.
