Cycling event and health fair set for Barbey Maritime Center

Columbia Memorial Hospital is partnering with the American Lung Association for a Reach the Beach Oregon Cycle for Air event on Saturday.

Cyclists will travel from Sauvie Island to the Barbey Maritime Center on Marine Drive, in Astoria where there is a Clear the Air for lung health fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The fair will feature a giant inflatable set of lungs for attendees to walk through and learn about services to help quit tobacco and vaping products, lung cancer prevention and screening, heart and lung benefits of exercise and new local clinical trials. There is also an opportunity to connect with pulmonology and radiology experts from Columbia Memorial Hospital and Oregon Health & Science University, and receive a free skin cancer screening.

New to the event this year is Escape the Vape, a youth anti-vaping prevention contest, and the winning public service announcement video submissions will be shown. Families can also learn how to help kids quit vaping and talk to smoking cessation specialists.

Participants can also enter to win an electric bike.
