What is a cybersigilism tattoo? Some love it, and some say this new tattoo style is ‘tribal tattoos on keto’
Getting a tattoo can be a major decision for people deciding to ink something on their body permanently. After figuring out what they want to get, people must also decide where and in what style they want it.
Recently, people have gravitated toward a style called Cyber Sigilism — which uses technology, mysticism and symbols to make creative and unique designs. It combines natural and almost veiny-looking lines with a sharp, futuristic feel.
This type of tattoo is a polarizing aesthetic. Those who enjoy it will defend the style against criticisms, while others see it as “tribal on keto.” Tribal tattoos feature bold black shapes and lines. Cyber Sigilism’s lines are usually thinner and sharper, but both fall under the blackwork category of design — tattoos done exclusively with black ink.
Because of the abstract, thin lines, some people don’t see the style as an entirely new thing but rather a trend reminiscent of another popular tattoo.

On top of that, some people view Cyber Sigilism as random lines on the body.

The rise of this style isn’t completely out of left field. In December 2022, tattoo artist Alissa Jung predicted some tattoo trends for 2023 on Yahoo.
“With 1990s and Y2K trends coming back, I’ve also started to see a modern take on cyber-sigilism tattoos — specifically butterflies, hearts, lettering, and chrome or sparkles,” she wrote. “Stemming from the popularity of abstract tattoos, this style has a similar, cool vibe with a nostalgic twist.”
Currently, on TikTok, #cybersigilism has over 84 million views, with users giving out ideas and showing off their versions of the style.
Although polarizing, Cyber Sigilism’s presence in the tattoo industry is being felt in a massive way right now. So don’t be surprised to see these types of tattoos more often.
