We all know that a swipe of bronzer right under your cheekbones and a strobe of highlighter right above them is the first step to faking good lighting—and good bone structure—everywhere you go. But if you’ve ever tried to match both to your skin, you know this power couple is tough to get right on the first try (tell us we’re not the only ones who have looked in the mirror in horror after a highlighter faux pas). Lucky for us, Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops ($42) may be the end to this guessing game we’ve been losing.

The latest addition to the brand’s customization line, these easy-to-use (they come in an eye dropper form), highly pigmented liquids allow you to add a highlighting or bronzing effect to any liquid makeup or skin care product (think: foundations, primers, serums, moisturizers or creams) for a perfectly customized shade and pigmentation level each time. The drops are available in six global shades—four highlighters and two bronzers—and are super buildable underneath or on top of makeup.

I tested three shades—Celestial, Sunlight and Sunkissed—and while they seem pretty similar online, they’re so different on skin. Celestial is a straight up highlighter—the tiniest drop of this ultra-shimmery liquid will go a long, long way. Unless you want to look over-the-top glittery (like, disco ball glittery) I would suggest mixing a drop with your favorite moisturizer and dabbing it onto the highest points of your face with a damp beautyblender for maximum radiance. Sunlight, however, is a mix between a highlighter and a bronzer, imparting a beautiful shimmery bronze to skin. While I wouldn’t recommend using it as an allover bronzer because of the shimmer, I would definitely use it in place of your normal bronzer if you’re looking for a “I’ve been at the beach all day” kind of dewy glow. Sunkissed, the lighter of the two bronzers in the line, is a matte (for the most part) bronzing liquid with the tiniest hint of shimmer. Use this shade to contour, add a drop to your face cream for a bespoke tinted moisturizer or add a small amount to your usual foundation to darken up the color during summer months without having to buy a whole new bottle.

If I haven’t convinced you that your vanity needs these drops yet, they’re also free of the “inflammatory 5”—parabens, fragrance, gluten, mineral oil and talc—and each is infused with the nourishing trifecta that is jojoba, sunflower and mimosa oils to moisturize and plump skin. Buy these now. You’ll thank us later.
