Customers banned from gun range for life over selfie showing one man pointing his firearm at his friend's head
The manager at Top Gun Range in Houston is not taking any chances when it comes to safety. As local ABC affiliate KTRK reports, two customers have been banned for life from the facility after a safety officer caught the men clowning around by posing for pictures with one pointing a gun at the other’s head.
The officer was standing guard on Friday when the danger-loving duo started joking around after checking in to do some shooting — and a security camera captured the entire incident. One of the men is seen taking a selfie with a firearm in one hand. He then turns the weapon on a friend to his right, pointing the pistol at his head. It’s unclear whether the gun was loaded.
At this point, the video footage shows the guard springing to action. He puts his hand over the gun and pushes it in a safe direction. He then immediately escorts the men out of the facility. Top Gun manager Kyle Harrison said he decided to post the video of the defused incident to Facebook as a “valuable training tool.”
As Houston’s Fox 26 notes, the men violated the basic tenets of gun safety. One is to always treat a gun like it’s loaded. Another is to never point your pistol at anything you’re not willing to destroy. Other rules include keeping your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to fire the weapon, and knowing your target — and what’s beyond the target.
“It makes your heart sink when you see that video,” Harrison told Fox 26. “You think it’s going to turn out much worse than it did. Luckily, we have good staff that took care of that quickly.”
He said the customers already had “enough experience, but they needed more training.”
As it turns out, they’ll have to train elsewhere, because they can never show their faces at Top Gun again after the gag that could have cost them their lives.
On Facebook, Top Gun Range congratulated the quick moves of its safety officer, saying, “Great job from our Range Safety Officer in stopping and addressing a safety violation on the range. The former customer brought in his own weapon for him and his friend to shoot. They were given a safety brief and still broke range rules once they went out to shoot. After they were promptly removed from the range, we covered which rules they broke and then banned them for life from the range. We take safety very seriously here at Top Gun Range, and we pride ourselves in having the best staff in Texas.”
The officer gave the men “a stern recap” on gun safety before banishing them from the range.
