NA and NB-generation Miata owners not fully committed to the soft top lifestyle know far too well that fiberglass hardtops meant to fit the cars from the factory are both rare and expensive. Factory-style options are available as design files for 3D printers, but if you want something a little bit more original, other options are starting to pop up, too.

This particular design is a fastback shape for NB-generation Miatas. Designed by HutchinsRacing, the fastback top integrates three spaces for glass and the trunk decklid to give your roadster the dramatic roofline it may have had if it were ever originally designed to be anything but a roadster in the first place. If the Miata is an MGB tribute, this is an MGB GT.

Because these are sold as models to use on your own 3D printer, buying a part meant to go on a car from a 3D printing model is a slightly more involved process than simply buying a completed part from a supplier. Add in that the fastback top design integrates the trunk and the build is a little bit more complicated than the same work for an OEM-style top. Still, the build process is simple enough to explain in just three YouTube videos totaling under 40 minutes. The part's designer claims that this particular build was done for under $500, which includes the $100 cost of the 3D printing model for the top itself. If you have an NB Miata itching for a fastback conversion, you can start by finding that file on Etsy.
