A cushier flight from Phoenix to Europe: What to know about Condor Airlines' new plane

Condor Airlines flew its last Phoenix to Frankfurt, Germany, flight of the 2023 season in September, and it's already thinking about 2024.

Next year, travelers at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport can look forward to a new plane that will seat more passengers and provide greater comfort.

Starting in May 2024, Condor Airlines will operate its Frankfurt-Phoenix flights on new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft. Condor said the benefits of the plane also include reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

"The A330neo will not only bring added capacity to this route, but it is a game changer in the level of passenger comfort that we are able to offer our guests," Mikko Turtiainen, Condor's director of sales in the Americas, said in a statement.

Passport demand: Wait times are down. But you still shouldn't delay if you need one.

Condor Airlines' new Phoenix-Frankfurt plane will have more personal space

The Airbus A330neo can seat 310 passengers. That's 51 more than the 259-seat Boeing 767 plane previously used for Condor's flights at Sky Harbor.

The plane will have 216 economy seats, 64 premium economy seats and 30 business class seats.

It has large overhead bins, a new lighting system and is equipped with the latest in-flight entertainment systems and connectivity. Each seat has USB connections for type A and type C devices, plus headphones for in-flight entertainment.

Lie-flat seats in business class on Condor's Phoenix-Germany flight

People who fly business class will notice the seats are lie-flat, meaning they can convert to a 76-inch-long, 19-inch-wide bed.

Four of the business class seats are described as "Prime Seats." These feature wider legroom, a space large enough to accommodate two passengers who wish to dine together and a 24-inch screen for viewing entertainment.

How the Airbus A330neo saves fuel

It's no coincidence that the new plane's eye-catching exterior is adorned with green stripes. Condor said the plane will operate on less fuel and emit less carbon dioxide.

The A330neo consumes about a half gallon of fuel per passenger per 62 miles and is the first aircraft certified for a required regulatory reduction in carbon dioxide emissions that the International Civil Aviation Organization will begin requiring in 2028.

When will Condor begin flying the from Phoenix to Frankfurt?

Flights will run on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, arriving in Phoenix at 5:40 or 6:05 p.m. and departing Phoenix at 7:30 or 8 p.m.
