This Cult-Favorite Candle Is the White House’s Official Holiday Scent

Come December, it seems like everyone, from your next door neighbor to retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue, pulls out all the holiday decor stops—and we don't mind one bit. After all, the ornaments, shimmery lights, and lush firs make this month feel magical. However, perhaps no public holiday display is more grand and awe-inspiring than the White House's annual Christmas reveal, which First Lady Dr. Jill Biden unveiled this week.

To give you the run down: it took over 300 volunteers working a full week to decorate the inside and outside of the White House. The team put up 98 Christmas trees and 72 wreaths throughout the complex, used over 33,892 ornaments, and placed more than 350 candles around the White House to create that soft and dreamy mood at night. Unless you actually live at the White House, or on a property of a similar size, recreating the lavish decor displays in your own home is a bit tough.

However, there are pointers you can take, starting with the candles. The White House uses NEST Fragrances's Holiday candle to create the inviting scent you'll smell throughout the space, if you take a tour there this season. The candle has a burn time of 50 to 60 hours, allowing your olfactory senses time to pick up on all the delicious notes. You'll get whiffs of pomegranate, mandarin orange, pine, cloves, and cinnamon along with a hint of vanilla and amber. So, while your own home may not have 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms, at least you can recreate the smells of the White House right in your living room.
