CU Buffs walk-on with history of misconduct allegations no longer with team following petition

Apr. 14—A University of Colorado football player is no longer with the team following public outcry surrounding his history of sexual misconduct allegations.

Buffzone reported earlier this week that Anthony "Deuce" Roberson II, a wide receiver who committed to the university as a preferred walk-on in December, is no longer with the football program.

His name has also been removed from the online spring roster on the team's website.

Officials with CU confirmed Roberson is still enrolled at the university, but could not release any further information, citing privacy laws.

Roberson could not be reached for comment. His Twitter page still lists him as a CU Buff, though he has not posted since early March.

Roberson, a transfer from Snow College in Utah and a graduate of Palmer Ridge High School in Monument, had already been "away" from the team since Feb. 23, the same day the El Paso County Sheriff's Office began investigating Roberson for a "criminal attempt of posting, possession, or exchange of a private image by a juvenile," in October 2018.

Roberson's presence on the team caused public outcry after an online petition that called for Roberson to be expelled due to his previous history of sexual misconduct allegations received more than 5,000 signatures.

In addition to the case being investigated by El Paso County, a student at Snow College said she pursued a no-contact order against Roberson for sexual harassment in 2022.

Several other women outlined allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment against Roberson in an article by The Bold and the CU Independent on March 8.

Jenna Baker, a first-year student at CU Boulder who authored the petition and spoke to The Bold and the CU Independent, said she took a week off school after the story was initially published.

"It was really overwhelming," she said. "That week was really hard going to school and stuff. I actually had to leave campus for about a week but I feel way better now obviously."

Baker added she believes the football program's lack of response is "disrespectful" but feels more comfortable that Roberson is no longer listed on the team's roster.

"It's disrespectful, but, you know, now that there's been action taken, I definitely feel a lot more comfortable about it," Baker said. "I mean, I know they had their hands tied with privacy and stuff like that and I know they had to do due process. It's kind of just like, 'why now?' though."

Baker said she is disappointed that Roberson is still enrolled as a student but said she was told Roberson was "banned from campus." CU Boulder officials said they could not confirm this.

CU Boulder and their new coach Deion Sanders will take the field for the first time in Sanders's highly anticipated and publicized turn as the Buffs coach during a spring game on April 22.

The spring game, which has generally been a sparsely attended free event, charged for admission this year and sold out. The game will also be televised on ESPN.
