CSI fans, get ready for more Gil Grissom! William Petersen starred as Grissom on the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, one of the most popular shows on TV from 2000 to 2010. To the delight of fans, the 68-year-old actor is reprising his role in the new CSI: Vegas spinoff. On the show, he reunites with onscreen wife Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox).

Grissom and Sidle experienced some ups and downs in their relationship, first dating in secret, then getting married, then separating. The series finale showed them back together and sailing off into the sunset. They've been living on a boat in South America until they're called back to the crime lab. William told TVInsider about Gil and Sara's relationship: "Our attraction to each other was always based on the work. We were always in some kind of mind meld when we were working. There was nobody he would rather be in the lab with or on a crime scene with than Sara. She got it. She got him, and he eventually got her."

William left the show as one of television's highest paid actors and has largely avoided the spotlight since, focusing on a theater career instead of TV or movies. We know all about William's onscreen relationship, but what's his real-life love story?

Is William Petersen Married?

William married Gina Cirone, a former biology teacher, in 2003, after dating for several years. According to EW, the couple tied the knot in the dreamy locale of Petrignano, Italy. They followed their nuptials with a European honeymoon.

This is William's second marriage. He was previously married to Joanne Brady from 1974 to 1981.

Does William Petersen Have Children?

William and Joanne had one child together, Maite Petersen, in 1975. Matie has two sons of her own, 18-year-old Mazrik William and 12-year-old Indigo August. That's right! Grissom is a grandpa.

More than 35 years later, William became a father again. On July 5, 2011, William and Gina welcomed twins via surrogate: a boy and a girl. The babies were born prematurely, and the at the time, the couple told People, "The babies are doing great and are improving every day and we can’t wait for them to come home." The couple has not released their names.

William told the Chicago Tribune in 2017 that he was taking a break from network television to focus on his twins, then six years old: "I had a relationship with CBS that was gold standard. And when CSI ended, I just decided I was going to spend as much time with my two (kids) as I can. I just spend my time chasing them around. They’re not here right now, and that means I can’t sleep.”

Now that the twins are a bit older, William is returning to TV, and we can't wait to see more from Grissom!
