This New Cruise Ship's 'Magic Carpet' Will Make Your 'Aladdin' Wishes Come True

In case it’s not enough to sail the seas, a new cruise ship is giving guests the opportunity to fly on a magic carpet.

The Celebrity Edge, setting sail later this year, will introduce an exclusive feature that will allow guests to soar alongside the ship.

Celebrity calls its “Magic Carpet” the highlight of the Edge. The “world’s first cantilevered, floating platform” is capable of moving around the ship from top to bottom. It’s about the size of a tennis court and can change functionality as it moves from deck two up to deck 16. When it’s on the bottom deck of the boat, guests will use the Magic Carpet to board the ship’s tender boats. On the upper levels, the feature will host late-night parties, dinners, and barbecues.

But guests shouldn’t harbor any fantasies about riding the Magic Carpet around the ship. Celebrity Cruises is already very clear that guests will not be able to sit aboard the Magic Carpet as it shifts levels.

In their staterooms, guests will find features like the “Infinite Veranda.” When guests press a button, the entire window will shift down to create the feeling of a porch inside the room.

The ship is more than 1,000 feet long and capable of accommodating more than 2,900 people. It will also feature a two-level jogging track, rooftop garden, and plenty of food, spa, and poolside experiences onboard.

The Celebrity Edge will make its inaugural cruise in December 2018 through the Western Caribbean. It is currently under construction in France.
