It is the end of an era. The last ever episodes of The Crown dropped on Netflix, and they take viewers through the aftermath of one of the most discussed tragedies of the royal monarchy, the death of Princess Diana.

Part two of season six shows teenage Princes Harry and William as they cope with the loss of their mother alongside the rest of the nation.

The second episode of the new release is called “Ruritania.” It highlights Queen Elizabeth’s response to the tragedy and how she sought the help of Prime Minister Tony Blair, who offered unconditional advice, per the episode description on Netflix.

The episode's final scene shows a card that reads: “In memoriam, Shay Leonard, 1970 – 2023.”

Who was Shay Leonard?

Shay Leonard was an art director and television and film producer from Dublin, per a death notice.He oversaw props for Netflix shows like Anatomy of a Scandal and The Crown from 2017 to 2020, per The Tab.

What famous movies did he work on?

Shay worked in the art department for many films, including Sherlock Holmes, Vampire Academy, and The Ghost Writer. He also directed and produced a short film called To Catch a Crow in 2000, per IMDB. He worked on props for the film Judy, The Other Boleyn Girl, and many others.

What happened to him?

Shay died in June 2023 after a six-month battle with an unspecified illness, according to the death notice. Shay was described as an “amazing father of Liam” and “gorgeous husband of Ekin.” He was living in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, a town in England, with his son and wife at the time of his passing, per the notice.

Friends shared, “You always felt better after spending time with him.” Another wrote, “Shay was a beautiful person, so kind, funny & caring.”

Family wrote in the notice, "Our special thanks to everyone who supported Shay and his family in the last six months during his illness. To those who helped in any way, your contribution made our loss more bearable. Please accept this acknowledgment as an expression of our deepest gratitude."
