Crowned Eagle Mom Protects Her Baby From a Predator in Intense Video

There's nothing stronger and fiercer than a mother's love for her babies, and animals are no exception. Wildlife and National Geographic photographer @Bertie Gregory recently captured a crowned eagle protecting her baby from a predator, and she is the definition of a "Mama bear".

Bertie shared the video on Halloween Day, and it's a very cool watch. It starts with Bertie and another photographer recording the eagle in her nest with her new baby. She starts "calling" out, and the two men try to figure out why she's getting anxious. They spot a hornbill who's eying her baby, and mom's on high alert!

Bertie explains that the unique-looking hornbill bird usually only eats fruit, but they won't pass up a snack of a baby eagle every now and then. Lucky for the baby, mom is not going to let anything happen to it!

Bertie also explains that it's called a crowned eagle because when they are feeling threatened, the feathers on their heads stand up and look like a crown. Once the hornbill flew away and mom started to relax again, the feathers that were standing up immediately started to go back down. It was very cool to see!

There were only a handful of comments left about the intense video, which I was surprised by. This is just a clip from @Bertie's TV show on National Geographic TV called "Animals Up Close". If you're interested in wildlife like I am, you can check out the show on Disney+. My kids really enjoy watching it, too!
