‘The Crown’ Star Matt Smith Is the Opposite of Excited for Meghan Markle

While 99 percent of the population is envious of Meghan Markle’s stroke of royal luck, The Crown star Matt Smith has a slightly different opinion.

The actor, who plays Prince Philip on Netflix’s royal period drama, spoke candidly during a panel yesterday (follow along above) about the pressures Markle will face. 

“I feel sorry for her,” Smith started. “It’s such a transition in her life, and it’s such a huge thing to take on. Life as she knows it is gone. But hey, she’s marrying the prince of Britain—how exciting for her.” Oh, hi, Negative Norman. 

Though the TV royal may view Markle’s sweet disposition with a glass-half-empty mentality, his onscreen wife, Claire Foy, holds a more popular opinion. 

The fictional Queen Elizabeth II said, “She’s an actress, so there’s hope for us all,” during the same panel.
