The Crown Is Getting One More Surprise Season
Good news: We're getting more of The Crown.
Months after it was revealed the show would end on a fifth season, creator Peter Morgan has pulled a surprise move, announcing the Netflix show will be extended to a sixth season.
Variety reports Morgan changed his mind, saying in a statement, "As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons."

In January, Netflix announced the show would be ending after the fifth season, with Morgan saying at the time, "At the outset I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop."
The streaming platform also dropped the news that Imelda Staunton (perhaps best known for playing Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter films) would play Queen Elizabeth, taking on the role from Olivia Colman, who played the Queen in season three and the upcoming season four. Colman took over the role from Claire Foy, who played Queen Elizabeth in seasons one and two.

Season three, which dropped on Netflix in December, won Colman a Golden Globe. The show itself won the SAG award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series earlier this year.
