The Crown ’s Claire Foy and Matt Smith Will Reunite Onstage

Season 3 of The Crown might feature a new cast, with Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies taking over the roles of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip from Claire Foy and Matt Smith, respectively, but the roles’ previous inhabitants aren’t done collaborating quite yet.

Foy and Smith, who played the royal couple on seasons 1 and 2 of The Crown, will soon be reuniting onstage in Duncan Macmillan’s play Lungs, the New York Times reported. The play, which quickly sold out at the Old Vic in London, will be performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in March.

In Lungs, Foy and Smith will play a couple wrestling with the nerve-wracking decision of whether or not to have a child while the world teeters on the verge of total destruction. (Relatable.) The play only has two characters, so fans can look forward to plenty of onstage face time between the pair.

Foy and Smith have each won or been nominated for Emmys for their portrayal of Elizabeth and Philip, and with good reason; they managed to portray two people who, let’s be honest, have had their share of problems, with enough chemistry to have viewers bemoaning their disappearance from season 3 of the drama. Last month, it was revealed that Foy is apparently returning to The Crown as Queen Elizabeth, in what looks like a flashback scene.

The New York production of Lungs will run from March 25 to April 19, and if Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story is any indication, there’s a huge market for stories about couples tackling life’s tougher situations, so get your tickets ASAP.
