Earlier this month an Evening Standard report claimed that Helena Bonham Carter was "all but confirmed" to take over the role of Princess Margaret in Netflix's hit historical drama The Crown

Now Vanessa Kirby has added fuel to the fire by posting a picture on Instagram featuring the two stood side by side. It's even captioned “Honoured. @thecrownnetflix”.

Kirby starred as the mercurial princess in the show's first two seasons, but the next series will see a new cast step in, with only Olivia Colman so far confirmed to be joining. She will replace Claire Foy as the Queen.

Written by Peter Morgan (the Bafta-winning screenwriter of The Queen and Frost/Nixon), The Crown has been one of Netflix's most expensive original productions, with the first series costing the streaming service a reported £100 million.

It has proved a hit with awards panels and critics alike, with The Telegraph's Ben Lawrence praising the first series as "astonishing" in a five-star review. The second series was nominated for two awards at this year's Golden Globes, both for Foy's performance as the Queen, and in the Best Television Series (Drama) category.

As yet, Netflix has not announced who will replace former Doctor Who star Matt Smith in the role of Prince Philip when the show returns for its third series, or who will be played the now-older Prince of Wales and Princess Royal.
