"Seamless leggings are exactly what they sound like: leggings made with minimal seams," says Ashley Nowe, fitness expert and founder of Get Mom Strong. "Unlike regular leggings, which are usually made by stitching together different pieces of fabric, the best seamless leggings are made from a single piece of fabric and typically joined along the inner thigh area." Because of this construction, Nowe says seamless leggings are suuuper stretchy and offer a solid amount of compression. Most pairs are also moisture-wicking, so they help avoid any unwanted sweat stains.

It offers maximum support so you can move freely no matter the workout. It's no surprise Roup is a fan—these babies are the real deal.

According to Nowe, these are "hands down" the best seamless shorts (hint: they also come in leggings). "The shorts come in five amazing colors, and the leggings come in black or brown," she says.

Nowe also adds that the material is thick, but not overly hot. "I wear these at least two to three times a week. They don’t show wear after washing, and they always feel supportive, but not stifling." Another pro? The V-seam on the booty gives the perfect shape.

How we chose the best seamless leggings

For the past month, Women’s Health associate e-commerce editor Lily Wohlner has been testing and researching the most popular, top-rated seamless leggings. She consulted with WH fitness editor Jennifer Nied, WH assistant fashion editor Rose Lauture, WH executive fashion director Kristen Saladino, and three fashion and fitness experts to compile an editor- and expert-tested list of the best options for every budget and preference.

What to look for in seamless leggings

Fabric

"What makes or breaks a seamless legging for me is the fabric," says Roup, who adds that a solid pair should have a strong yet not-too-thin high-compression material that makes you feel secure. She notes that this can be hard to find without trying the leggings on and feeling the fabric yourself.

If you don't know what to feel for (or search for online), Nowe says to go for a fabric that feels "soft enough to bring comfort, but thick enough that they are squat-proof (meaning you can’t see your underwear while squatting)."

Compression

Seamless leggings should hug your curves, says Nowe. "They should definitely feel supportive, but not overly constrictive." How to tell the difference? "You should be able to take a deep inhale without any limitations," she adds. "Gentle compression in the belly is great for added support, but again, you don’t want it so tight that it disrupts your natural breathing pattern, which is horrible for your core and pelvic floor."

Nowe recommends reading online reviews to be sure that the leggings are not overly restrictive and the waistband doesn't roll down.

Moisture-Wicking

According to Nowe, it's also essential to read reviews on how the leggings handle sweat. "No one wants to walk around looking like they’ve peed their pants after a sweaty workout (although, that's totes normal)," she says. If you do have some leaking with activity (also normal with age!), don't just settle for black leggings. "Do a workout program that helps rehabilitate your core and pelvic floor."

To ensure your leggings are moisture-wicking, Conroy says to search for selects that highlight breathability, four way stretch, and sweat-wicking fabric.

Waist Height

"As you shop, look for high-waisted styles," says Conroy. Lucky for you, all options in this list are high-waisted, so no worries there! "Beyond the cute factor they’re functional," she adds. "The extra length at the waist prevents your leggings from slipping and falling down. Plus, the supportive waistband locks in tummy control, giving your frame 360-degree sculpting."

What is the benefit of seamless leggings?

They're like a second skin

Conroy says that unlike thicker leggings, seamless leggings are like a second skin. "They're closely fitted to the body to provide compression, while allowing you to move and groove with zero restrictions," she says. And don't worry—because they don't have seams, your curves won't feel like they’re being squeezed into sausage casings.

They aren't irritating

When you’re wearing your leggings for hours on end or working out full throttle, inner seams can irritate you, says Conroy, who adds that this is especially prevalent for those with sensitive skin. "That’s why seamless leggings are a fabulous alternative."

They're eco-friendly

Conroy tells us that producing a single batch of seamless leggings requires less water and material than other types of leggings. "While it might cost you a little more at the onset, seamless leggings are better for the environment and for your wallet, as they last a long time."

Their durability can be attributed to their seamless design, as Nowe tells us that the seam is usually the weakest part of the legging. "Fewer seams means less chance of wear and tear."

Are seamless leggings better?

The biggest difference between seamless and regular leggings is that seamless ones don't have seams, whereas regular leggings have a seam to connect the waistband and leggings.

According to Conroy, seamless leggings are the superior option because they offer unmatched comfort that moves with your body.
