Scheduled for October 21, 2023, the Circuit Racing International Tour (CRIT) Championship is around the corner. The non-USA Cycling sanctioned event is the brainchild of L39ion founder Justin Williams, and in its first year is already getting a lot right already in terms of parity.

Both men’s and women’s events will race 70 minutes around the.66 mile course, with four corners, through the EDGE District of St. Petersburg, Florida. Races will feature equal payouts across men’s and women’s races. The Pro prize purse stands at $7,500 for each race, and Open Cat 2/3/4 will race for prize purses of $1,000.

Besides all the elite bike racing, organizers will be offering something for everyone. The event features a FUNdo group ride, a 5K run, and a yoga event. There are also open and masters crit races that anyone can sign up for. Williams’ goal was to create an inclusive and competitive environment that brings out the best in people.

Unlike many cycling events that are difficult to spectate, crit events allow fans to see all of the action from almost any location on the course. Some of the biggest crit events are late in the evening with stadium lighting, MCs, music, light shows, and an electric atmosphere.

St. Petersburg’s race will be especially exciting because of the rectangular course. The pro men’s race consists of 48 laps (31.6 miles) with sprints every 12 laps. The pro women’s race consists of 40 laps (26.4 miles) with sprints every 10 laps. Each sprint scores points, and at the end of the race, the person who crosses the line first is the winner, but individuals are also awarded for the most points earned. The racer with the most points earns a Most Valuable Pedaler award.

Prize money and special jerseys are awarded to the MVPs, and the best young riders, in addition to the individual and team prizes.

The CRIT series and Championship is in collaboration with Justin Williams’ Williams Racing Development (WRDevo) and Wasserman Ventures. The event is free to the public, with VIP options available for purchase. These are the teams that will make up the invite-only pro-peloton in Florida next week.
