Crisis Dogs Deployed To Nashville To Comfort Grieving Students and Families

Dogs from all over the country are heading to Nashville after shooting left six dead.

Service dogs from all over the country, including Orlando, are headed to Nashville, Tennessee to provide comfort to grieving families that were affected by the horrific school shooting that left six people dead, including three kids.

Registered Therapy Dog Macy, and handler R.A. “Bear” Berman, are part of the “Crisis Response Canines” group that will be heading to Nashville to support the grief-stricken community.

Berman explains in the above video that when he was contacted to head to Nashville he was unaware that the shooting had even taken place but the crisis dog teams immediately sprang into action to coordinate travel and logistics. Berman and Macy also visited Uvalde, Texas in May with five other teams after the terrible shooting that rocked that community. Berman was quoted as saying "This incident that we’re going to requires a little more than just talking to some people. We’re trained with psychological first aid. I happen to be certified with canine first aid,” explained Berman. “On the general side, the interaction is very calming and very soothing. … Most people really like dogs and when they look at her they just smile."

The teams will be arriving in Nashville today and staying until Monday to comfort the children and their families.
