Welp, it's official! Just when we thought we'd be settling with watching reruns of Criminal Minds to fill the crime drama void, Paramount+ dropped some major news.

The hit show that takes a deep dive into some of the most twisted criminal minds aired its season finale in 2020 (or so we thought). Now, Criminal Minds has been given the thumbs up for a revival with a new 10-episode season. Here's everything we know so far about the reboot coming to Paramount+.

Where will the new season of Criminal Minds pick up?

The reboot titled Criminal Minds: Evolution began production in August. Obviously, fans are hyped and to add to the excitement, actor Joe Mantegna who portrayed David Rossi, shared this teaser post with fans captioned, "Just doing a little inspection today for an upcoming project. #criminalminds"

Season 15 ended with a double-episode series finale that included an explosive pursuit and face-to-face encounter with "The Chameleon," an infamous serial killer. Fans are left wondering what BAU's future will hold now that Rossi is contemplating retirement.

Criminal Minds: Evolution will pick back up with the elite team coming up against a major threat, an UnSub who used the pandemic to build a prolific network of other serial killers. Now that the pandemic is over, it's up to BAU to stop the network as it goes operational one murder at a time.

Will it be the same cast as previous seasons?

Yes and no! While many of the cast members will be joining forces once again to explore the psychology behind crime, fans shouldn't expect things to be exactly the same.

We think we should drop this news first — Matthew Gray Gubler, who portrayed Dr. Spencer Reid, will not be returning to the upcoming season of Criminal Minds. Although, he's been a mainstay since the beginning and even helped direct episodes, the actor admitted that he's ready to move on from the television show.

Another cast member who won't be returning? Daniel Henney who played Matt Simmons. As a star in Amazon Prime Video's The Wheel of Time, Daniel wouldn't have time to commit to a new season of Criminal Minds. As for a special appearance in the upcoming revival? Well, we'll have our fingers crossed.

Now for the good news! Here is a list of fan favorites who will definitely be returning for the Criminal Minds reboot:

  • Joe Mantegna as Senior Supervisory Special Agent David Rossi

  • Kirsten Vangsness as Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia

  • Adam Rodriguez as Special Agent Luke Alvez

  • A.J. Cook as Special Agent Jennifer Jareau

  • Aisha Tyler as forensic psychologist and Special Agent Tara Lewis

  • Paget Brewster as BAU Unit Chief Emily Prentiss

When will Criminal Minds: Evolution premiere?

Paramount+ recently announced that the fan favorite show will return with not one, but TWO new episodes on Thursday, November 24. So, once you've had your fill Thanksgiving Day turkey, new episodes will be ready to stream immediately.

After the debut, new episodes will drop weekly on Thursday until the midseason finale on December 15. The 10-episode season will pick back up on January 12 with the big season finale slated for February 9.
