Little kids can be adorable, but let's face it: Sometimes, they say creepy things. Like really creepy things.

Take my daughter, for example. At 3 years old, she nonchalantly shared with me that there was a "shadow mommy" who visited her at night and would sometimes brush her hair. Another time, as I was saying goodnight to her, she casually asked: "What's that thing next to my dollhouse and why is it moving around?" Needless to say, I was scrolling Zillow that night.

Whether you subscribe to the idea that little kids are just somehow more connected to spirits (that is, if you believe in ghosts at all), or chalk it up to children's colorful imaginations, any way you slice it, the fact remains: Kids can be downright spooky. It is worth noting that children develop skills pertaining to imaginative play within the first few years of their lives, which may impact their seemingly out-of-the-blue paranormal observations.

Similarly, kids start dreaming more vividly around 2 years old, so I suppose it's possible my daughter dreamt about a "shadow mommy"...or, y'know, perhaps my house is just haunted. One of the two. I'll be burning some sage just in case.

To learn more, we turned to a variety of parents and caregivers to ask what's the creepiest thing their kids have ever said. Some stories about contacting deceased loved ones might warm your heart. Others may make you laugh out loud. But then there are some that might chill you to the bone...better read with a light on!
