The Craziest Shoes From Paris Fashion Week Fall 2024: Loewe’s ‘Caviar’ Boots, Alexander McQueen’s Hoof Heels and More

Designers turned out an array of statement footwear for the fall 2024 season on Paris runways this month. The season at-large seemed to herald the return of the square toe as well as second-skin boots, but a handful of designers went ostentatious.

From stilettos inspired by the hooves (and legs) of horses, to boots that were almost cartoonishly oversized, here are a few of the eye catching options.

Sean McGirr’s debut at Alexander McQueen was a divisive one with the 35-year-old taking over after 14 years of Sarah Burton. His footwear was certainly a part of that divisiveness: in addition to some large boots, McGirr sent down shoe bags. These designs resembled the effect of putting a plastic bag over your shoes to keep them from getting wet. But more eye-catching than that were the hoof shoes. They were inspired by the famed “armadillo” shoes created by brand founder Lee McQueen himself.

Loewe

Jonathan Anderson’s Loewe collection went ornate. With the show held in a gallery space, a selection of standout shoes feature intricate beadwork that felt like a riff off of the pointillism painting style — it was made to resemble “caviar” as the collection was a study of money and class. Flat boots came rendered in this ornate style featuring flowers as if plucked from the work of Albert York. The American painter’s work was on the walls of the show.

Demna’s fall 2024 Balenciaga featured a massive boot. Though there weren’t many of them in the show, the brand showed a bulbous knee-high black leather boot, that laces tightly up the leg. It is called the “Stomper.”

Former Comme des Garçons designer Kei Ninomiya added versions of the Reebok Instapump Fury for his fall 2024 collection. In one, the “Kumo,” the sneaker has flower-shaped plastic pumps piled across the upper. In the Citron colorway, those flowers are neon with a black pump at their center on a black, red and yellow. That collaborative design is also available in all black and all white.

For a collection built from designer Rei Kawakubo’s anger, for fall 204 collection Comme des Garçons boots featured melted soles. Seemingly inspired by the notion of “melting down,” oversized rubber soles jutted out from the rest of the style.
